Bush threatens Syria - but is he threatening to attack?
"Succeeding in Iraq also requires defending its territorial integrity - and stabilizing the region in the face of the extremist challenge. This begins with addressing Iran and Syria.
These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops.
We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We will interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq."
It is hard to tell what the implications of this statement are. But my reading of it suggests Iran is at risk of attack, Syria is at risk of further isolation.
This is why. The only direct mention of Syria is here: "We will interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria." Now, interrupting the 'flow of support' suggests a diplomatic offensive - putting pressure on the Syrian government.
On Iran, Bush is more direct: : "Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces." Here, he blames the Iranian government for American deaths, and threatens to 'disrupt attacks' on US forces.
Bush says Syria is backing the insurgency, while Iran is actively helping the attacks.
Well, First of all as an Arab man i really dont like the association of Syria with the Iranian enemy! At the same time, i excecuse Syria, for it seems to me that iran is her only way out of her international, and more sadly Arab, isolation.
We always have to bare on mind that Iran is fundamentally an enemy of the Arabs. Simply because Arab nationalism constructs a barrier against the spread of what it considers her sphere of influence, the Arab world.
What Iran is doing in iraq is by all means a Crime. First, they provided logistic aid to the American invasion. Secondly, their intelligence men and client badr militants are working their best to get rid of the best techncratic elite in the Arab world, look at the assassinations of iraqi pilots, generals, university professors, prominent Physicans!
the badr militants along with el mahdy army fight on the side of the Americans against the resistance! They never fired a bullet against the Americans. They are jsut waiting for the Americans to finish off the heroic iraqi resistance that is defending the entire Arab world,in order to step forward and proclaim iraq an anti arab pro iranian state.
It seems that those persians havent forgotten their bitter defeat and humilation at the hands of the iraqi army!
So I JUST DONT UNDERSTANT HOW COME bUSH COMES AND ACCUSES IRAN OF BACKING THE INSURGENCY?????????

Amre,The Arabs have only one enemy and that is Israel, I did not hear anything about Iran being an enemy when it was pro Israel under the Shah but that was axceptable to the Saudies and the corrupt Arab states then when the Islamic revolution got rid of the Shah they ( the west and The gulf states encluding Kuwait) pushed Saddam to attack Iran who did what Arab country do not know how to do,they refused C-Fire without the withdrowel of the Iraqi army ,8 years later and after the death of two milion moslems and bilion of dollars the war ended only to see Kuwait and other gulf states asking Iraq for the money they gave Iraq to suppress the Iranian moslem revolution ,that pushed Iraq Saddam with inticment from the American to attack Kuwait to give an excuse to bring the American and the west to Arab lands ,Amre, the enemies of the Arab and the Palestinians are not the Iranians ,They are other Arabs ,The Arabs who want to surrender and force the Palestinian moslem Hamas ,Syria and Lebanon into submition,Shame on these Arabs the Arabs of the Saudi arabia ,Egypt,and Jordon for betrial of the Arabs and moslems.about Iraq ,the insugecy that atacks the occupation force is a resistence but not the people who bombed mosques just because they belong to the Shiia faith, shame on them, I think your assesment of Iranian help to the occupying force is wrong and what president Bush said about Iran makes sence as it is of Iran's interest to keep the US busy in Iraq to prevent an attack on Iran ,Syria Has simmiler objective.
