Siniora and Nasrallah disagree over Israel report

Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and Opposition leader Hasan Nasrallah have displayed an interesting difference over an Israeli report into last summer's attacks on Lebanon.

It is one of those rare occassions that I find myself siding with Siniora against Nasrallah.

The report criticised the Israeli government's handling of the attacks on Lebanon, accusing Olmert of "serious failure in exercising judgement, responsibility and prudence."

Nasrallah responded by saying he gave: "every respect to a commission appointed by Olmert that condemns Olmert."

Israel, he said, is "committed and faithful to its own existence". And that Israelis "study their defeat in order to learn from it". That is better than Arab states which "do not probe, do not ask, do not form inquiry commissions ... as if nothing has happened

By contast, Siniora is angry that the report fails to mention the destruction of Lebanon, and murder of 1200 innocent Lebanese civilians. He warned that the report is a precursor to more Israeli terror. There is "talk in Israel of the need to launch new military operations against Lebanon," he said.

I am sure Sinyora read Dr. Bishara's article before he said that ;)
He is rarely of a good reader of Israeli internal system.
I agree with you wholeheartedly, it is one my takes on Sayyed Nassralla, he unfortunately has a binary opposition outlook: "us/them", "evil/good". That it might fail him to understand that "good" in itself, could be evil.

Rock on Sasa.

Thanks Rima, who are you?

I'm the same person as CarinyaBrutal. Enjoying Paris???

Hmm..does he really read things in evil/good and us/them. The same can be said of Israel too and to be honest with you, Hezbullah know probably better than anybody how the Israeli mind works.

I feel after reading this article that Siniora might have misread the purpose of the Israeli investigation. It is not concerned with "goyem" who might have been killed or maimed. The report is concerned with how these failures took place and how to prevent them in the future.

I feel the investigation was to ask why the war was lost, not why there was a war in the first place.

I agree with you both Golaniya and Wassim. But one thing you both said about him seeing things in black and white...that's not what I understood from his comments at all. The think that surprised me about his reading of the report is that he seems to see it in shades of grey: yani, the Israelis aren't so bad after all if they learn from their mistakes.

Golaniyah, what do you mean good can be evil?

Hi Sasa,
Sorry I forgot to add a question mark at the end of black and white. I meant to ask "Does he really read things in evil/good and us/them?"

Nasralla was tring to say that we should respect the Israelies for admiting their defeat ,
He is right , we Arabs should learn from that as if we do not recognise defeats and wins we will not learn from our experiences .
Our Arab brothers of Arabia could not recognise the winn that Hizballa brought them and use to their advantage.

Its funny how you syrian dingbats praise Hizbullah, and say that "THEY WON THE WAR"..

They didnt win the war..
They started the war by kidnapping 2 israeli soldiers, and there were no winners..
The only people that lost were the Lebanese people..

I didnt read that Israel sacrificed 1200 lives and had billions of dollars of infrastructure being damaged.

Hizbullah is and will always be a pain in the arse on the Lebanese landscape..

You know, its so funny how your president praises RESISTANCE GROUPS within the arab landscape, but cant muster up a Resistance group to the south of Syria to LIBERATE THE GOLAN HEIGHTS.

And we all know why??????
All GUTS, NO GLORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
